Luna Replicas brings you the continuation of our flagship, "Flight Wear" line, with the G-1 leather flight jacket. These jackets are built from the ground up using historic examples to recreate original G-1 flight jackets from the 1950s and 60s, including genuine goatskin leather, New Old Stock 1950s-era buttons, YKK #10 heavy duty brass zipper, brass armpit vent grommets, faux Mouton fur collar with neck closure tab, and custom milled EXACT recreation wool knit waistband & cuffs.
All facets of our G-1 match Cold War-era G-1 jackets exactly. Variations of the G-1 (technically MIL-J-7823(AER), and earlier M-422 and M-422A jackets) have been in continuous service in the US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard since the late 1930s, and still issued to aviators and air crews today.
G-1 jackets have been worn by every US Naval & Marine Aviator for generations, aboard and ashore. Films like "Top Gun," "Midway," "The Flying Tigers" all feature the iconic G-1 jacket. Many NASA Astronauts & crews have been Navy and Marine veterans, proudly wearing their G-1s. Even President John F. Kennedy, a surface Navy officer during WWII, preferred a G-1 jacket, even having his Presidential Seal patch sewn to two of them that he wore frequently.
The designed usability and comfort of these jackets are simply unmatched. The bi-swing and belted back, along with high armholes and longer sleeve cuffs, allows the wearer totally free motion of their arms without the jacket riding up or tightening across the back. The thin jacket lining and faux fur collar (folded down) are comfortable even in the summer, yet warm in the winter with an insulated layer underneath and the collar turned up to the neck. Soft goatskin is extremely durable, yet flexible, and break-in wear time is minimal. Don't be afraid to wear your G-1 in any weather or condition: they can take it!
